Preparing to Sell

If you are thinking about selling your home in the near future there are some things that you can start doing now to prepare.

Buyers are looking for move in ready homes, and they are willing to pay top dollar for those homes. I don’t know how many times I have seen the homes with grey walls, white trim and cute decor go into bidding wars because they looked homey.

Freshen up your paint colors. Whether you paint grey, or just a nice light neutral color, nice fresh paint makes a home look and feel clean. If you have white trim, make sure you have it all wiped clean, and touch up any trim that may need it.

Kitchens and bathrooms are one of the main rooms buyers are looking at. If your kitchen and bath cabinets are out of style orange wood, you may want to consider painting them. This is an inexpensive way to give your kitchen a whole new updated look. Sometimes just replacing the hardware on the cabinets will change the look.

Declutter, declutter, declutter. Any furniture that you can live without during the process of the sale, put in storage. The more open your floor plan looks, the better, especially if your home is small. Take as much off of your kitchen countertops as possible, buyers want to kitchens with lots of workspace. Store or give away kids toys that aren’t being played with often. Clean out closets. Box up clothes that are currently out of season and keep closets as spacious as possible.

Depersonalize as much as possible. Buyers want to see themselves in your home, not how you and your family live in the home. Mirrors in the entryway are great ways for buyers to literally see themselves in the home, as well as making the area look larger.

Curb appeal. Make sure your home feels welcoming even before the buyers walk through the front door. This is your chance to make a great first impression. Nice landscaping, flowers, and decor will make a lasting impression.

I would be happy to come to your home and give you some ideas on how to prepare your home for an upcoming sale, and offer some staging tips as well if you are preparing your home for sale.
